M-KAT is a solar PV Plant (100 MW) located next to the village of Shu in the Zhambyl region. The power plant’s construction works started in July 2019, with a turnkey Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract signed with METKA EGN, a subsidiary of Mytilineos S.A. In operation since December 2019, M-KAT and Nomad are the first PV power plants using single-axis trackers in Kazakhstan. M-KAT is co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and holds a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Financial Settlement Center for Renewable Energy Sources (FSC). The power plant is expected to generate about 176 GWh per year, enough to supply the needs of more than 31,000 Kazakh people and reduce CO2 emission by about 234,300 tons per year.
