Last spring 2019, two photovoltaic solar farms located within the complex of Benban were commissioned in Aswan province in South Egypt. Formed of 32 projects totaling 1.8 GW, the Benban Complex has attracted numerous international developers and received support in particular from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for project financing. These two solar power plants, with a capacity of 63 MW each, are among the first plants to have successfully entered commissioning. Once completed, Benban will be one of the largest solar installation in the world.
