We started up our first Japanese solar power station in Nanao, on the Noto peninsula, in the west of the country, in March 2017. This 25-hectare wind farm’s 80,000 high-efficiency solar panels power 9,000 homes in the country.
We are Asia’s leading egg producer and we decided to produce solar energy on unused land at our site. We went looking for the best partner, that we could trust, and found a company in France which could deliver both safety and leading-edge technology: Total.

Total, which has been active in South Africa for 50 years, was chosen to build and operate one of Africa’s largest ground-mounted solar farms in Prieska, Northern Cape. This 75 MWAC farm has been powering about 75,000 South African homes since 2016.
The key to this partnership has been the technical expertise that Total has brought to the team, the willingness of the partners ourselves and the other South African partners to work together towards a common goal: build a sustainable solar PV farm in South Africa and also build a relationship going forward.

We fitted 250 sqm of solar panels on the Paris Law School’s roof, in Issy-Les-Moulineaux, as part of France’s first district-scale energy optimization pilot. These panels produce over 50 MWh of electricity for the building and avoid 3.5 metric tons of CO2 emissions every year.
The Paris Law School’s roof wasn’t originally designed to hold solar panels, but Total came up with this proposal. It was the smart move. It makes us more self-reliant. The building uses electricity but can also share it. It’s a groundbreaking solution, it’s open and it’s outward-looking.
